The European community has repeatedly outlined ( Health at a Glance: Europe, 2016) that people’s way of life was deeply destructive. As a consequence, they have carried out policies in order to improve people’s health. Those policies do work with some people, however younger generations have never been so much in danger of being overweight than they are today (Sassi, F, 2010). Healthy life style problems are for all generations but especially for younger people they have been important topics in many societies for quite a while. We can blame bad habits, lack of information, too much usage of new technology and lack of knowledge about human’s negative influence on themselves as well as bad influence from the social and physical environment ( Health at a Glance: Europe, 2016) . The article deals with the problem of unhealthy students and presents the results of the students as well as their parents’ health issues and social, emotional and psychological well-being.
This report has been prepared by the WHO Regional Office for Europe to support the European Commission conference, Youth health initiative: be healthy, be yourself, held in Brussels, Belgium on 9 and 10 July 2009. The report offers a "snapshot" of the health of young people in Europe with data drawn from an extensive range of sources, but in particular the 2006 Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey report. The HBSC Survey covers health behaviours of 11-, 13-and 15-year-olds; data on 16−25-year-olds, who are the main focus of the European Commission Conference on Youth and Health, are more difficult to find. This snapshot report nevertheless presents valid and informative data on a wide range of health issues that are important to young people, including injuries and accidents, mental health, overweight and obesity, physical activity and sedentary behaviour, substance misuse and sexual health.
Quantitative and qualitative analysis results of the research “healthy lifestyle through students’ eyes” are presented here. It has been sought to analyse, how Lithuanian comprehensive school upper school students value some healthy lifestyle questions, what their attitude to the importance of healthy lifestyle is, on the whole, how their healthy lifestyle conception is expressed. Healthy lifestyle is a wide, complex concept, covering not a single life sphere. The researches show, that people, as a matter of fact, perceive the importance of healthy lifestyle and have a wish to live healthily, but are short of timely and true information. Such information is especially necessary to young people. Having carried out quantitative and qualitative, collected in the survey, data analysis, it has been stated, that the majority of the respondents think, that healthy lifestyle is important and necessary. On the other hand, students think, that very little attention is paid to the healthy lifestyle questions at schools; very often their available information is controversial.

Objectives: To identify the main knowledge gaps and to propose research lines that will be developed within the European Union-funded 'Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence' (HELENA) project, concerning the nutritional status, physical fitness and physical activity of adolescents in Europe. Design: Review of the currently existing literature. Results: The main gaps identified were: lack of harmonised and comparable data on food intake; lack of understanding regarding the role of eating attitudes, food choices and food preferences; lack of harmonised and comparable data on levels and patterns of physical activity and physical fitness; lack of comparable data about obesity prevalence and body composition; lack of comparable data about micronutrient and immunological status; and lack of effective intervention methodologies for healthier lifestyles. Conclusions: The HELENA Study Group should develop, test and describe harmonised and state-of-the-art methods to assess the nutritional status and lifestyle of adolescents across Europe; develop and evaluate an intervention on eating habits and physical activity; and develop and test new healthy food products attractive for European adolescents.
Postmodern Openings, 2021
In postmodern society, many of the perceptions that people had about them, their lives, the values that define them and the strategies that they can use to achieve their ideals have changed. Specifically, today we can talk about new paradigms, such as health, lifestyle focused on personal well-being, obtained through fitness (physical activity, balanced diet and recovery) and wellness, respectively wellbeing that adds the spiritual component, in an holistic interdependence (Larson, 1999). An important role in the changes we are talking about has been played by the media, which promote living standards built on hedonistic principles, specific to the consumer society. The consequence is that more and more teenagers and young people want to look good and feel good, but only a small part of them reach the specialists, who are best able to provide individualized guidance, support, and programs to prevent any negative consequences of uninspired choices or poorly dosed enthusiasm The stakes of choice are high, because a healthy lifestyle, which should not be limited to body aesthetics, but also aims to develop the spiritual side, can support a more effective adaptation to the dynamics of changes in society (economic changes influencing developments in social life supported by political decisions). The last year, marked by a new challenge, the pandemic, has fully demonstrated the need to assume on a personal level a balanced and responsible lifestyle, which offers new values of quality of life, as well as complementing proactive management with that managed by specialists.
Health …, 2010
Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to investigate perceptions of second grade lower vocational students concerning benefits, barriers and strategies of healthy eating and physical activity. Design/methodology/approach-Focus group discussions are conducted with 37 adolescents, from three schools in The Netherlands. A semi-structured questioning-scheme is used. Recorded data are transcribed, analysed using Atlas.ti and arranged in the EnRG-framework. Findings-Adolescents find health and a healthy weight important and like having a choice when it comes to health behaviour. The choices they make, however, are often unhealthy, especially when related to food. The risk perception of these adolescents is low; as long as they feel healthy, they feel no need to change their behaviour. Parents are held responsible for providing opportunities for healthy behaviour. At the same time, parental influence lessens and adolescents start to develop unhealthy habits, usually under the influence of a peer group. Adolescents accept the interference of school, meaning that there are good opportunities for school-based interventions. Research limitations/implications-The number (37) of respondents may not be representative for the different personalities of peer-students. Practical implications-Adolescents need to take on greater responsibility for their own health behaviour, especially in the school setting where they are more autonomous than at home. More information is needed about the perceptions of parents and school staff regarding stimulating healthy dietary and physical behaviour to develop, implement and preserve integral school health interventions successfully. Originality/value-The paper provides information on adolescents' perceptions on their responsibility for their health behaviour, which is needed to develop school-based health intervention consistent with their needs.

The main purpose of the present study was to determine the associations between socioeconomic status (SES) and lifestyle factors. In this cross-sectional study, participants were 3,072 adolescents from two European countries of Lithuania and Serbia. The dependent variable was SES, while independent variables were gender, adherence to a Mediterranean diet, body-mass index, self-rated health, psychological distress, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and sedentary behaviour. The associations between dependent and independent variables were analysed by using logistic regression analysis. In univariate model, middle/high SES was associated with higher adherence to a Mediterranean diet (ptrend = 0.003), good self-rated health (OR 1.51; 95 % CI 1.12 to 2.05) and meeting recommendations of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (OR 2.09; 95 % CI 1.45 to 3.00), yet inversely associated with psychological distress (OR 0.81; 95 % CI 0.66 to 0.99) and sedentary behaviour (OR 0.80; 95 % CI ...

Adolescence is an age when healthy lifestyle awareness has great chances to be established as an ally for the entire life. We investigated the nutritional/lifestyle knowledge and the self evaluation of the BMI, in a randomly selected sample of 1201 high-school teens. The descriptive cross sectional study was based on a self-completed questionnaire. Nutritional knowledge among teens is generally correct. The level of daily physical activity is underestimated 17.3% of students smoke. Regarding BMI, 69% of the sample are between the 5th and the 85th WHO percentile, 27.6%, under the 5th and 3.4 %, between the 85th and the 95th percentile. Almost a half has an incorrect image of the body weight. The body image discrepancy is significantly associated with underweight, gender and with an insufficient food intake. Even if adolescents have good nutritional understanding, a special educational effort has to be paid to give them other needed healthy lifestyle information.

This paper presents the impact of health education on life expectancy and adaption to modern conditions. The acquisition of healthy attitude in the first and second decade of life influences the development of trade, economic status and helps efficiently cope with stress. The article highlights the impact of "health literacy", the school environment and family upbringing and subsequent persistence in health. Organization of education should be started from childhood. Unfortunately many teachers and parents cannot supply information about sanitary education, correct sanitation, healthy nutrition and physical activity. Disciples who lack support and knowledge can be exposed under pressure of contemporary risky operations. Pediatric population makes up to 30 % of the whole population. In the first and second decade of life the baby is shaped and strengthens previously instilled habits. Stage of puberty is the most favorable moment for proper physical development of young people. During this period perpetuate conscious health behaviors, but at the same time there are health risk behaviors. These behaviors affect the quality and duration in health. Measures of health policy on school-age children should be focused primarily on prevention and health promotion.

Background/Aims: Obesity among adolescents is a significant and global disease which requires early prevention. The development of overweight and obesity depends not only on genetic components but also on lifestyle. The objective of the survey was to study the lifestyle of 15- to 19-year-old secondary school students in Budapest. Methods: Students (n = 1,273, 670 boys, 603 girls) were asked to complete questionnaires about their leisure activities, physical exercise, eating habits and knowledge of nutrition. The response rate was 45.2%. Results: Three-quarters of the secondary school students lived a sedentary life and more than half were dissatisfied with their body weight. More than 40% of the girls had been on a slimming diet at least once. Half of the students regularly consumed vitamin and/or mineral supplements. Nearly 25% of the adolescents did not have breakfast and nearly 60% of the school-leavers smoked regularly. Conclusions: Coordinated cooperation is necessary among sta...
The 1 st year of university studies is the last period during which the attitudes and habits of young adults can be shaped and that is why it is so important to accurately assess their lifestyles and needs. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the habits and attitudes of 640 first-year male students attending the Warmia & Mazury University in Olsztyn regarding their lifestyles, health risks and possible preventive measures. Method: Students were randomly chosen from groups attending obligatory P.E. lessons. A self-administered anonymous questionnaire, containing questions regarding physical activity, personal hygiene and sanitary conditions, nutrition, stress, tobacco and alcohol use, and the students' interest in gaining knowledge on health-related topics, was used. The obtained results were characterized by descriptive statistics. Results: The majority of the students reported participating only in obligatory P.E. lessons in high school and less than a third expressed a willingness to participate in such lessons throughout their university education. Many students reported drinking alcohol regularly, even as often as every day, and nearly half of them smoked. Most students considered stressful situations to be unavoidable and a large percentage of them expressed an interest in gaining knowledge on coping with this. The overall interest in health related topics was found to be quite low. Conclusions: The habits and attitudes of 1 st year male university students are not interested in physical activity, but largely dependent on alcohol and tobacco. Despite the fact that these students expressed the need to change some behaviors and gain knowledge on a few specific health topics, their motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle can be treated as low.
