Efforts for privileges. The relationship between the hajdú towns of Szabolcs and Ferenc II Rákóczi. In our brief overview, we wanted to collect the small fragments that characterize the struggle for the preservation of the privileges of the Hajdú towns of Szabolcs. Based on the sources, the relationship between the towns and the prince, the Kuruc top leadership, can be clearly outlined, which, after the initial permissiveness, has increasingly transformed into a situation that does not tolerate contradiction. The privileges of the Hajdú towns did not, and could not, save their holders from taking part in the freedom struggle in many cases beyond their power, even if they tried to continuously dampen this. The eight-year war of independence only postponed the inevitable transformation: this period definitively laid the foundation for the establishment of the Hajdú District.
